Krotoszyn lies in the south of Greater Poland, in gently rolling farmland. Its historic centre follows the classic plan of a Polish market town: a rectangular square at the heart, streets leading away from each corner, and a compact grid of blocks around it. Later districts spread outward from this core.
The town has long been a rail junction, and on the map the lines cutting through and around it are among the strongest features, curving in from several directions. Parks and green spaces lie near the centre, and beyond the outer estates the land returns to fields and woodland.
