Trzcianka lies in the north of Greater Poland, in the wooded country near the Noteć valley. On the map, the town is a tidy core of streets surrounded by very large blocks of forest, with water showing up here and there as lakes and small streams. A railway line cuts through it at an angle and forms a clear diagonal in an otherwise loose street pattern.
The centre follows the pattern of many small towns in western Poland: a market area with streets leading out from it, low-rise housing beyond, then fields and trees. There are no sprawling suburbs.
