The map
Sangla Hill is a town in the Nankana Sahib district of Pakistani Punjab, on the flat, intensively farmed plain between the Chenab and Ravi rivers. It takes its name from a small rocky hill that rises abruptly from the plain close to town, a rare break in an otherwise level landscape. The town itself is compact, with a dense market centre and residential areas spreading out from it.
Sangla Hill grew as a market and railway town serving the surrounding farmland, and a railway line still passes through it. Some historians link the hill to Sangala, a fortified town in accounts of Alexander the Great's campaign, though the identification is debated. Around the town, irrigation channels and field boundaries form a striking geometric pattern.
A Sangla Hill map poster sets the dense, irregular streets of the town against the order of the surrounding canal-fed fields. The contrast between old bazaar lanes and the straight lines of the countryside gives the print both detail and structure. It is a map for anyone whose family story begins here.

The town's core is a tight cluster of narrow streets and small blocks, the densest and most intricate part of the poster.
Tracks pass through the town in a long straight line, a legacy of its role as a railway and market centre for the district.
