The map

About this Sátoraljaújhely map poster

Sátoraljaújhely lies in north-eastern Hungary, where the Zemplén Mountains meet the border with Slovakia. The town stretches along a valley, with the Ronyva stream forming the frontier on its eastern side. Across the border is Slovenské Nové Mesto, once part of the same town. Hills rise steeply to the west and north.

The Magas-hegy, above the town, is known for its chairlift, bobsled track and adventure park. The town also has deep historical ties to Hungarian culture: Lajos Kossuth worked here as a young lawyer, and Széphalom, now part of Sátoraljaújhely, was the home of the language reformer Ferenc Kazinczy.

A Sátoraljaújhely map poster shows how closely the town follows its landscape. The centre sits in the valley, while streets climb into the hills and wooded areas fill the edges of the frame. The border stream adds a slim, winding line, reminding viewers of the town's position at the edge of Hungary.

01

Ronyva border stream

The small Ronyva forms the boundary with Slovakia along the town's eastern side, a narrow line on the map with the neighbouring Slovak town just beyond.

02

Magas-hegy slopes

The hill above the town, with its chairlift and leisure facilities, rises from the built-up valley, and its wooded slopes create a large open area on the poster.

03

Valley town layout

The main streets follow the valley floor, while side roads climb the surrounding hills, giving the map a long, stretched shape bounded by high ground.
