About this Savanna-la-Mar map poster
Savanna-la-Mar is the capital of Westmoreland parish on the south-west coast of Jamaica. The town lies on flat ground beside a broad bay, and its layout is organised around a long main street that runs from inland down toward the waterfront, with cross streets forming a loose grid on either side.
The town's name refers to the savanna by the sea on which it was built, and its seaside position has shaped its history, including severe damage from hurricanes in the eighteenth century. It remains the administrative and commercial centre for the parish and for the farmland around it.
