About this Sept-Îles map poster
Sept-Îles lies on the Côte-Nord of Quebec, on the north shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Its map is shaped by a large, almost circular bay, sheltered by the group of islands that gives the town its name. The streets follow the curve of the shoreline, with the boreal forest close behind.
The deep, protected bay made Sept-Îles one of the major ore-shipping ports in North America. Iron ore arrives by rail from mines in northern Quebec and Labrador, and the port installations at Pointe-Noire on the western side of the bay are visible even on a simple street map.
