About this Shagamu map poster
Shagamu, often written Sagamu, is a town in Ogun State in southwestern Nigeria and the traditional centre of the Remo people. On the map it combines two patterns: an older core of irregular streets and compounds that grew from several neighbouring settlements, and newer, more regular blocks extending outward along the main roads. The palace of the Akarigbo, the paramount ruler, stands in the older part.
Its position is its most familiar feature for many Nigerians. The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway passes the town, and the interchange here is one of the busiest junctions in the region, linking routes toward Lagos, Ibadan and the east. The large looping ramps give the map a strong geometric shape against the finer texture of the neighbourhoods.
