The map
Sidi Mérouane sits in the Tell country of northeastern Algeria, where the land is rarely flat for long. From above, the town is a small, dense cluster of streets. Around it, fields and orchards cover rounded hills, and valley roads curve along the easiest line through the terrain rather than following any grid.
The province of Mila is best known for its water. The Beni Haroun reservoir, one of the largest in the country, lies within its borders, and the valleys around towns like Sidi Mérouane drain toward that system. On a map, this shows up as fine threads of streams and dry channels. They branch across the countryside and give the paper a gentle, organic texture.
A Sidi Mérouane map poster keeps all of this in plain black lines: the tight core of the town, roads leaving it at uneven angles, and the quiet drainage lines around it. It is a modest composition, and a truthful one. It shows a place shaped by agriculture and by the hills, not by monuments.
The built-up area forms a tight knot of short streets and blocks, clearly separated from the open farmland that surrounds it on every side.
Roads leave town following the contours of the hills. They bend and fork in soft curves that give the poster movement without any need for landmarks.
Small watercourses branch through the surrounding fields toward the larger river system of Mila province, adding a delicate, root-like pattern around the edges.
