Colorado River crossing
The river bends past the old centre and forms the state line with California. It is the reason the city exists, and the site of its historic crossing.

Yuma Map Poster & Print
Yuma grew at a narrow point on the Colorado River that has served as a crossing for centuries. On a map, the river curves along the city's northern and western edges, marking the line with California. The older downtown sits near the water. The city then extends east and south in a broad grid laid over flat desert and irrigated farmland.
Yuma is often listed as one of the sunniest cities in the world. Its canal-fed fields produce much of the winter lettuce and leafy greens sold in the United States. The Yuma Territorial Prison, now a state historic park, stands on a bluff above the river, and the Mexican border lies just to the south and west.
A Yuma map poster brings out the region's precise geometry. There is the meandering river, the straight canals, the square field blocks and the regular street grid, all set against the quiet emptiness of the desert. It is an unusually graphic landscape, and it translates cleanly into black and white.

Canal-fed fields
Irrigation canals and square farm plots surround the city. They form a grid as regular as the streets themselves and support Yuma's winter vegetable harvest.
Territorial Prison bluff
The historic prison sits on high ground above the river near downtown. It is one of the best-known landmarks in the Arizona desert.

Zakaj Yuma
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Yuma draws winter visitors, military families from the nearby bases, and farmworkers who come for the season. For many of them it becomes a place they remember clearly. A map captures its sunlit order in a way photographs rarely do.
