The map
Soma is a town in the Lower River Region of the Gambia, and it owes its importance to its position. It sits at the junction of the South Bank Road, which runs east–west through the country, and the Trans-Gambia Highway, which crosses from northern to southern Senegal. On a map, these two routes meet in the town and structure everything around them.
North of Soma the highway approaches the River Gambia, which is now crossed by the Senegambia Bridge to Farafenni. Around the junction, the town spreads as a loose pattern of streets, compounds and market areas, and then thins out into farmland, bush and the wetlands along the river. The main roads stand out as strong lines across the frame.
A Soma map poster suits people who know it as a trading and transit town where trucks, buses and travellers stop on long journeys. For Gambians at home and abroad, it records a place that links regions and countries. Graphically, it is a clear cross of roads set in a wide, open landscape.
The Trans-Gambia Highway and the South Bank Road meet at Soma. Their crossing forms the backbone of the map and explains the town's role as a transport hub.
The road north leads to the River Gambia and the Senegambia Bridge. The wide river and its wetlands frame the upper part of the region.
Around the junction, streets and compounds form an irregular, low-density pattern that fades gradually into farmland and bush.

Why Soma
Many Gambian families have roots in towns like Soma, and relatives who live abroad often keep strong ties to them. A map poster brings its crossroads and river country into a home far away, as a simple, dignified reminder of where people come from.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a family name, a place of birth or a date, and edit the coordinates line. Choose Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
