The map
Svishtov stands on the south bank of the Danube in northern Bulgaria. The river here reaches the southernmost point of its whole course. On a map, the Danube forms a broad band along the top of the frame, with Romania and the town of Zimnicea on the far shore. The town climbs from a strip of port and industry at the water's edge up onto hills and plateau behind.
The old centre sits on the slopes, where the streets have to fit around the terrain rather than follow a straight grid. Svishtov is home to the D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics, the oldest school of economics in Bulgaria. The town is also the birthplace of the writer Aleko Konstantinov. East of town lie the remains of the Roman frontier fortress of Novae.
A Svishtov map poster is shaped by the river. The wide, calm Danube, the long quays and the streets rising above them form a clear layered composition. It is a good choice for graduates of the academy, for families with roots in the town and for anyone who has followed the Danube and wants a reminder of its southern turning point.
The river reaches the southernmost point of its entire course near Svishtov. On the map its broad channel dominates the northern edge.
A low strip of quays, warehouses and industry lines the shore, separating the water from the residential town on the higher ground.
The historic core climbs the slopes above the river, and its streets bend and step to follow the hillside.

Why Svishtov
Many people who hang this map studied in Svishtov and spent formative years in its hillside streets. Others simply feel tied to the Danube. In either case, the print keeps the town and its river together in one clean image.
Personalise the title and subtitle, for instance with a graduation year, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The Noir style gives the Danube a strong, dark presence.
