The map

About this Szamotuły map poster

Szamotuły lies north-west of Poznań in Greater Poland. On the map, its old centre is a compact knot of streets around a market square, with the wider town spreading out in blocks of flats, houses and allotments. The small Samica river runs through it, and the green space around the castle grounds breaks up the built area.

The castle is known for the Halszka Tower, which is linked to the legend of Halszka of Ostroróg, the so-called Black Princess, said to have been held there in the sixteenth century. The town is also the birthplace of the Renaissance composer Wacław of Szamotuły. The railway line between Poznań and Szczecin passes through it.

A Szamotuły map poster shows a very typical Polish town plan: a medieval core, a railway along one edge, and newer districts laid out in straighter blocks around them. The river and the park near the castle soften the geometry. The black-and-white rendering picks out each layer clearly, so you can see how the town grew outward from its square.

01

Market square

The old centre is a tight set of streets around the rynek. At poster scale it forms a dense focal point from which roads radiate outward.

02

Castle and park

The castle grounds, home to the Halszka Tower, appear as an open green patch close to the centre, one of the few irregular shapes among the blocks.

03

Railway edge

The Poznań–Szczecin railway draws a long, straight line along the town, clearly separating older streets from the newer districts beyond.

Why Szamotuły

A map that means something

Szamotuły is the kind of place people carry with them after moving to Poznań, Warsaw or abroad: the square, the tower, the streets on the way to school. A clean map print holds those memories without spelling them out.

You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with the year you left or a family name. Pick from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Printed posters ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
