About this Tandai map poster
Tandai lies on the northern coast of Guadalcanal, the largest island of the Solomon Islands, west of the capital, Honiara. On a map it forms a narrow band. The shoreline runs along one edge and the land climbs quickly toward the forested interior on the other. Most of the road network follows the coast, with short tracks turning inland.
Guadalcanal is known well beyond the Pacific because of the long campaign fought here during the Second World War. The waters off this northern coast are still called Iron Bottom Sound after the many ships that sank there. Today the coast is mostly residential and agricultural. Small streams come down from the hills and cut across the coastal road on their way to the sea.
