The map

About this Tursunzoda map poster

Tursunzoda lies at the western end of the Hisor Valley in Tajikistan, close to the border with Uzbekistan. The town sits on a gently sloping plain with foothills rising to the north, and irrigated fields spread across the valley floor around it. On the map, residential blocks from the Soviet era create a regular pattern that stands out against the surrounding farmland.

The town was once called Regar and was renamed after the Tajik poet Mirzo Tursunzoda. It is best known for its aluminium smelter, one of the largest industrial plants in Central Asia, whose extensive site forms a large block of its own on the edge of the town. A railway line and the main road westward towards Uzbekistan pass nearby.

A Tursunzoda map poster shows how planned apartment districts, industrial plots and the looser street pattern of older neighbourhoods fit together on one sheet. Canals and field boundaries fill the margins with fine lines, so even the empty space around the town has texture and a quiet rhythm.

01

Planned residential blocks

The town's Soviet-era districts appear as regular rectangles of housing and courtyards, a clear contrast with the narrower lanes of the older neighbourhoods around them.

02

Industrial site

The aluminium plant takes up a large area near the town. On the map its long buildings and internal roads read as a separate, geometric district.

03

Valley fields

Irrigated farmland on the Hisor Valley floor surrounds the town, and its canals and field edges add a delicate pattern of lines to the map.

Why Tursunzoda

A map that means something

A map of Tursunzoda means a lot to people who grew up there or whose families worked in the town, especially those now living far away. It records a place that rarely appears on a poster, drawn with the same care as any capital.

The title, subtitle and coordinates line are editable, so you can add a name, a year or a short dedication. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. HD files cost $9, and printed posters are available too.
