The map

About this Ulongué map poster

Ulongué is the main town of Angónia District in Mozambique's Tete Province, set on a high plateau close to the border with Malawi. The elevation gives the area a cooler climate than the Zambezi lowlands to the south, and the land around the town is largely agricultural, with small fields and scattered homesteads covering the gentle slopes.

From above the town appears as a cluster of streets and buildings where several roads meet, with markets, administrative buildings and neighbourhoods gathered around the centre. Beyond it, tracks branch out between cultivated plots, and the settlement pattern becomes looser and more spread out as it moves into the countryside.

An Ulongué map poster reads as a portrait of a regional crossroads. The road network is the strongest element, drawing lines toward neighbouring districts and the border, while the fine, irregular pattern of paths and farms around it gives the sheet a soft texture.

01

Crossroads centre

Several roads converge at the heart of the town, forming the densest part of the map and connecting Ulongué to the rest of the plateau.

02

Angónia plateau

The town sits on high ground known for farming, and the map shows the countryside as a wide field of small plots and tracks.

03

Border proximity

Malawi lies a short distance away, and roads heading toward the border give the composition a clear direction to the east.
