The map
Uthai Thani lies in central Thailand, on the Sakae Krang River, which flows along the eastern side of the town before joining the Chao Phraya system. From above, the river is the clearest line on the map, with the town's streets arranged on its western bank and roads running roughly parallel to the water.
The town is known for its calm pace and for the floating houses moored along the river, a traditional way of living that gives the waterfront its character. Khao Sakae Krang, a low hill with a temple at its summit, rises at the edge of the centre. Further west in the province lies the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
An Uthai Thani map poster brings together the river, the grid of the town and the rounded shape of the hill. The water gives it a steady, flowing edge, while the streets form a modest, orderly pattern beside it. It is a gentle map, much like the town it portrays.
The river runs alongside the town, its bends clearly drawn on the poster. The floating houses once lined much of this waterfront and remain part of its identity.
A low hill near the centre, crowned by a temple, interrupts the street pattern. On the map it appears as an open area with roads winding around its base.
The town's streets form a compact, fairly regular grid set close to the river, giving the poster a clear structure between the water and the flat land to the west.
