The map
Venilale lies in the hills south of Baucau, in the interior of Timor-Leste. The town sits in green, uneven country with valleys and ridges all around, and the roads reaching it have to wind to cope with the slopes. It is known for tunnels cut into the hillside during the Japanese occupation of the Second World War, which remain a local landmark.
From above Venilale is a modest settlement with a few main streets and buildings gathered along them. Beyond the centre the map quickly opens into farmland and forested slopes, crossed by small roads that link the scattered villages of the area. Streams run through the valleys, and the whole pattern is shaped by the terrain.
A Venilale map poster brings out the quiet structure of a hill town. The winding approach roads, the small central cluster and the open land around it make a balanced, uncluttered image. It is a considered choice for people with family in the area or for anyone who has spent time in the Timorese highlands.

The town's buildings gather along a small number of streets. From above, this central cluster contrasts with the open countryside all around it.
Minor roads and tracks lead out to villages in the surrounding valleys. Their thin, curving lines spread across the frame like veins on a leaf.
