About this Virginia Beach map poster
Virginia Beach occupies the south-eastern corner of Virginia, where the Atlantic coast turns into the mouth of Chesapeake Bay at Cape Henry. On a map, a long straight oceanfront runs north to south, backed by a narrow grid of resort streets. Inland, the pattern loosens into suburbs, winding creeks and lakes, while the Lynnhaven River system cuts a branching shape into the north shore.
It is the most populous city in Virginia and is known for its three-mile boardwalk along the oceanfront. Cape Henry is associated with the 1607 landing of the Jamestown colonists, remembered in First Landing State Park. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel starts at the city's northern edge, and Naval Air Station Oceana occupies a large area inland.
