About this Wenzhou map poster
Wenzhou lies in the south of Zhejiang province, where the Ou River widens toward the East China Sea. The old city grew up on the southern bank, and on a map the river forms a long, strong edge along the north side of the urban area. Hills surround the plain, so the city spreads east toward the coast rather than far inland.
In the river itself sits Jiangxin Island, a narrow islet long known for its twin pagodas and gardens, reached by ferry from the city. South of the river, the older districts are threaded with canals and small watercourses, while newer districts extend east with broader roads and larger blocks toward the port and the estuary.
