Te mapa
Abancay sits in the southern Peruvian Andes as the capital of the Apurímac Department, on the side of a valley well below the surrounding peaks. From above, the city does not spread out evenly. It stretches along the slope, with a denser grid near the centre that loosens into streets following the lie of the land as it climbs and falls.
On a map, the terrain is easy to read even without shading. Roads run across the slope and then switch back, blocks shorten where the ground steepens, and drainage lines cut down through the built-up area towards the valley floor. The Abancay map poster keeps this interplay of orderly centre and irregular edges, which gives the print a restless, mountain-shaped outline.
Abancay is often called the city of eternal spring for its mild valley climate, which contrasts with the cold high country around it. To the north rises the Ampay massif, protected as the Ampay National Sanctuary and known for its forests of native intimpa trees. Together the valley and the mountain explain most of what the city's shape looks like from above.
Streets climb and bend with the slope rather than keeping to a strict grid, so the city's line work tilts and curves in a way that shows the steep ground beneath it.
Near the centre the blocks tighten into a more regular pattern around the main square, forming the densest and most even part of the drawing before the hillside takes over.
The Ampay National Sanctuary rises above the city to the north, and its protected mountain slopes appear on a wider framing as open ground beyond the last streets.

Koteā ko Abancay
People who were born in Abancay, studied there or passed through on the long road across the Andes often want a quiet reminder of the valley. A street map says more about the place than a photograph of one square, because it shows how the whole city fits against the mountain.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name or a date, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Take the $9 HD files in six sizes as PNG and PDF, or order a printed poster on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame.
