Ābdānān is a town in Ilam Province in western Iran, among the folded mountains of the Zagros. It sits in a valley at the foot of Kabir Kuh, one of the longest ridges in the range, and on a map the relief shapes everything. The town occupies a relatively level strip of land, with steep slopes rising above it and ravines cutting down from the heights.
Streets in the centre form a compact, mostly regular network, stretched along the valley in the same direction as the mountains.
