Adams Morgan is a neighbourhood in northwest Washington, DC, rather than a separate city. Its map centres on the intersection of 18th Street and Columbia Road, where the streets meet at an angle and restaurants and shops cluster. Around this crossroads are tightly packed rowhouse blocks on sloping ground, with Rock Creek Park to the west and Meridian Hill Park to the east.
The neighbourhood's name comes from the Adams and Morgan schools. It was adopted in the late 1950s, when residents came together across racial lines to improve the area. Adams Morgan has since become known for its international restaurants, lively nightlife and the annual Adams Morgan Day street festival.
