Te mapa
Aigáleo is a municipality in the western part of the Athens urban area, named after Mount Aigaleo, the ridge that rises along its western side. From above, it is one continuous fabric of city blocks, typical of the working-class districts that grew quickly in the twentieth century as Athens expanded outward from its centre.
Its most famous line is the Iera Odos, the Sacred Way, the ancient route from Athens to Eleusis that still runs across the area as a major road. Around it, streets form a tight, mostly regular grid of narrow lanes and small blocks. Toward the mountain, the grid breaks up and gives way to the slopes and green open space of the ridge.
An Aigáleo map poster shows a part of Athens that visitors rarely see but residents know intimately. The dense street pattern prints with rich texture, and the Sacred Way cuts straight through it like a thread of history. It suits people who grew up here, supporters of the local football club, or anyone who calls western Athens home.
The Iera Odos, the ancient road from Athens to Eleusis, crosses the municipality as a long, straight artery that stands out clearly against the smaller streets.
Small blocks and narrow streets fill almost the whole area, creating a dense, even texture typical of the western Athens suburbs.
To the west, the ridge that gives the town its name interrupts the grid with slopes and open ground, leaving calm space at the edge of the map.

Koteā ko Aigáleo
For people who grew up in Aigáleo, the city centre of Athens is not home. This street by street is. The map honours that local identity and records the neighbourhood they know, not the postcard view of the Acropolis.
