Te mapa
Åkersberga is the main town of Österåker municipality, north-east of Stockholm, at the edge of the Roslagen coast. It lies at the head of Tunaviken, an inlet reaching in from the archipelago, and much of the town follows the shore, with residential areas set among bedrock, forest and water.
The Roslagsbanan narrow-gauge railway ends here, connecting the town to central Stockholm, and its line runs through Åkersberga to the terminus near the centre. From above, the street network is irregular and organic, following the contours of the granite landscape rather than any grid, with small neighbourhoods separated by forest and inlets.
An Åkersberga map poster is shaped as much by water as by streets. The inlet and bays create detailed, jagged coastlines, the forest leaves broad empty areas, and the town's curving roads weave through the gaps. It is a typical Swedish coastal landscape, softly drawn, and it suits the Paper or Blueprint styles especially well.
The inlet at the head of the town brings the Baltic right into Åkersberga, giving the map a long, irregular shoreline and a clear focus for the town centre.
The narrow-gauge railway to Stockholm ends here, and its track draws a steady line through the neighbourhoods toward the terminus near the centre.
Rocky, wooded ground separates the residential areas, leaving large open spaces on the map and pushing streets into winding, contour-following routes.
