Te mapa
Södermalm is the large island on the south side of central Stockholm, linked to Gamla stan through the junction at Slussen and bordered by Lake Mälaren to the west and the Baltic waters of Saltsjön to the northeast. From above, a dense grid of streets fills a rocky plateau, with steep cliffs along the northern shore and bridges on every side.
Once a working-class district, Södermalm is now one of the city's most sought-after neighbourhoods, known for cafes, independent shops and the area around Nytorget often called SoFo. Much of Stieg Larsson's Millennium series is set on its streets. The northern clifftop, along Monteliusvägen and Fjällgatan, offers some of the best views over Stockholm.
A Södermalm map poster shows long avenues such as Götgatan and Hornsgatan cutting through the grid, parks tucked between blocks, and the island's waterfront edges. Långholmen lies to the west and Hammarby Sjöstad to the southeast across the water. It is a personal, detailed print for anyone who has lived on Söder or still thinks of it as home.
Steep heights along the northern shore rise above Riddarfjärden and Saltsjön, forming the island's most dramatic waterfront edge and its best-known viewpoints.
Two long streets cut through the island, one running east to west and the other north to south, giving the dense grid a clear structure.
At the northern tip, Slussen links Södermalm to Gamla stan, a knot of roads, quays and locks that anchors the top of the map.
