Te mapa
Alcabideche sits in the northern part of the Cascais municipality, set back from the seafront towns, where the land climbs toward the Sintra hills. On a map it reads as a scatter of old village cores, newer housing and open ground. Winding local roads run between them, while the straight line of the A5 motorway toward Lisbon cuts across to the south.
The name goes back to the Moorish period, and the parish is linked to Ibn Mucana, an eleventh-century poet who wrote about the area. Today the parish is also home to the Estoril motor racing circuit. On paper its closed loop of track stands out as a smooth, deliberate curve among the irregular lines of the surrounding streets.
An Alcabideche map poster shows a place in between. The coast is close but not in frame, and the hills rise to the north while the suburbs of Cascais press in from the south. In black and white the contrast between planned roads and older paths is easy to follow. The empty spaces of green and scrubland give the drawing room to breathe.
The Estoril circuit draws a closed, looping line within the parish. Its sweeping bends are one of the few perfectly smooth shapes on a map otherwise made of village lanes.
Several small historic centres show up as tight knots of short streets. Longer roads link them across open ground, so the parish reads as a cluster, not one town.
To the north, roads thin out and bend with the terrain as the land rises toward the Sintra range. The street pattern fades into broad empty space.

Koteā ko Alcabideche
People who live between Cascais and Sintra often identify with a parish more than a town, and Alcabideche is a good example. A poster of it records the everyday roads home, a stretch of Portuguese landscape that rarely makes it onto souvenirs.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name or a moving date. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The HD files are $9, or you can order it printed on matte paper, framed if you like.
