Te mapa
Badajoz lies on the southern bank of the Guadiana, a few kilometres from the border with Portugal, in the wide plains of Extremadura. From above, the river curves along the northern edge of the old town, while the historic centre climbs a low hill crowned by the Alcazaba. Newer districts spread south and west, and across the river the city has grown along the northern bank as well.
The old town is ringed by bastioned fortifications, their star-shaped outline still visible on the map as sharp angles and projecting points. Inside, streets are narrow and irregular, rising towards the Moorish citadel. The Puente de Palmas, a long sixteenth-century stone bridge, crosses the Guadiana to the north, joined by several modern bridges that tie the two banks together.
The Alcazaba of Badajoz is one of the largest Moorish citadels in Spain, and the city was the scene of a famous siege in 1812 during the Peninsular War. Its position close to Elvas, across the border, made it a strategic stronghold for centuries. A Badajoz map poster shows the layered shape of a frontier city: walls, citadel, river and bridges.
The Moorish citadel occupies the hilltop above the river, a large walled enclosure that appears on the map as a clear open space at the northern edge of the old town.
The fortifications around the historic centre form a jagged, star-shaped outline, one of the most striking geometric features on any map of the city.
This long stone bridge from the late sixteenth century crosses the Guadiana with a steady line of arches, linking the old town to the northern bank.

Koteā ko Badajoz
Badajoz means different things to different people: a border crossing, a university city, a place of military history. Its angular walls and curving river make a map that is both historical and strongly graphic on a wall.
Add a personal title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a date or a family name. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand; Noir and Blueprint bring out the sharp angles of the bastions especially clearly.
