Te mapa
Huelva sits on a tongue of land between the estuaries of the Odiel and the Tinto, just before they join and flow into the Atlantic. From above, the city is framed by water on two sides and by wide salt marshes and tidal channels, with port infrastructure lining the rivers and a compact centre on the higher ground.
The region is closely tied to the voyages of Columbus, who set sail in 1492 from nearby Palos de la Frontera, across the Tinto. The Tinto takes its name from its reddish water, coloured by the mining area upstream, and Recreativo de Huelva is Spain’s oldest football club. The Marismas del Odiel wetlands to the west are a protected nature reserve.
A Huelva map poster shows a city defined by estuaries. The two rivers meet in a broad channel at the point of the peninsula, the marshes spread out in irregular, branching shapes, and long piers and docks reach into the water. The dense urban centre sits among them as a compact, solid shape.
The Odiel and the Tinto frame the city on either side and meet south of it. The peninsula between them gives Huelva its distinctive outline.
West of the city, tidal channels and salt marshes branch across the land in fine, irregular lines. They are one of the most detailed textures on the map.
Docks, piers and industrial quays line the estuaries. Their straight edges contrast with the organic shapes of the marshland around them.

Koteā ko Huelva
Huelva is a city of departures, from fifteenth-century ships to the families who left for work elsewhere. For people with a connection to the city, its estuary setting makes a map of unusual clarity and character.
