Te mapa
Alcalde Díaz is a corregimiento on the northern edge of the Panama City metropolitan area, spread along the Transístmica highway that has long linked the Pacific and Caribbean sides of the isthmus. From above it looks like a spine with ribs: one main road, and dozens of residential streets branching off it into loops and cul-de-sacs.
Much of the growth is recent, and it shows. Planned housing developments appear as neat, self-contained patterns, each with its own curving streets, set between patches of older, more irregular settlement and the vegetation that still covers the surrounding slopes. The map records a place in the middle of becoming part of the city.
An Alcalde Díaz map poster is a way to hold on to that moment. For families who moved here for more space, or who grew up as the neighbourhood filled in, it shows the specific street layout of their corner of Panama, drawn with the same care usually reserved for famous historic centres.
The highway runs straight through the district and organises everything around it, the one continuous line from which almost every local street begins.
Individual housing developments show up as distinct clusters of loops and dead ends, each with its own geometry, fitted together like pieces of a loose puzzle.
Hills and tropical vegetation press in around the built-up area, leaving open white space that frames the streets and hints at the terrain beyond.
