Alexânia is in the state of Goiás, on the BR-060 highway that links Brasília with Anápolis and Goiânia. On a map the highway cuts a long, straight line past the town, and the urban area spreads beside it in a mostly regular grid of blocks. Its position between two major cities has shaped both the town's economy and its outline.
