Te mapa
Anaheim was founded in 1857 by German settlers as a cooperative vineyard colony, and its original town lots still sit at the heart of a much larger city. From above, most of Anaheim is a regular grid of arterial roads spaced about a mile apart, filled with residential blocks, business parks and shopping centres typical of Orange County.
Several freeways cross the grid at angles, including Interstate 5 and State Routes 57 and 91, and their interchanges form the largest shapes on the map. The Santa Ana River runs in a straight concrete channel along the eastern side of the central city, while further east the terrain rises into Anaheim Hills, where the streets break into winding, contour-following curves.
The resort district in the southwest is home to Disneyland, which opened in 1955, and Angel Stadium and the Honda Center stand near the river. An Anaheim map poster reveals how these large, self-contained parcels sit within the grid, each one a distinct block of open space and parking on the finished print.
Major streets run north–south and east–west at regular intervals, dividing the flatlands into large, even blocks that give the map a calm, ordered texture.
The channelised river runs as a straight line along the eastern side of the central city, a clear divide between the flatlands and the rising ground beyond.
East of the river the grid gives way to looping residential streets that follow the slopes, a sharp and attractive contrast with the straight lines below.
