Te mapa
Garden Grove lies on the level coastal plain of northern Orange County, and from above it looks almost entirely made of grid. Major arterials run north to south and east to west about a mile apart. The squares between them are filled with residential streets, cul-de-sacs and small commercial strips. There are no hills or rivers to interrupt the pattern, so the rhythm is very regular.
The Garden Grove Freeway, State Route 22, is the main exception. It crosses the city on a slight angle, and its interchanges break up the otherwise even blocks. In the west, the city includes part of Little Saigon, one of the largest Vietnamese American communities in the country. Its commercial streets appear as dense clusters along the arterials.
Garden Grove's best-known building is Christ Cathedral, formerly the Crystal Cathedral. It is a large glass church campus near the freeway in the city's northeast. A Garden Grove map poster shows how a former farming town, once known for strawberries and orange groves, turned into a finely detailed postwar suburb with Anaheim and the rest of the county right next to it.
Arterial roads roughly a mile apart divide the city into large squares, each filled with its own mix of curving residential streets and cul-de-sacs.
The Garden Grove Freeway runs across the city at a gentle angle, the one strong diagonal in a plan that is otherwise almost fully orthogonal.
The former Crystal Cathedral grounds form a distinct open parcel in the northeast, with the church, tower and car parks set among the surrounding blocks.
