Te mapa
Anan lies on the eastern coast of Shikoku, south of Tokushima, where the Naka River reaches the sea. From above the city is a mix of flat delta land and rugged coastline: waterways split the plain into separate districts, while to the south the shore becomes a sequence of small bays, headlands and islands backed by wooded hills.
Anan is closely associated with the LED. The blue light-emitting diode developed here at Nichia Corporation by Shuji Nakamura, work later recognised with the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics, made efficient white LED lighting possible. The city has embraced this connection, using LED illumination in public spaces as part of its identity.
Along the coast, industrial sites and port facilities occupy reclaimed land in clean geometric shapes, contrasting with the irregular natural shoreline further south. An Anan map poster captures a city shaped by river and sea, with the straight edges of industry set beside the rocky coves of the Shikoku coast.
The river widens as it reaches the sea at the northern edge of the city, its broad channel and sandbars drawing a strong line across the poster.
Factories and harbour areas sit on reclaimed land along the coast, their straight quays and rectangular plots forming a crisp geometric edge against the water.
South of the centre the coastline breaks into bays, headlands and small islands, a detailed and irregular outline that fills the lower part of the map.

Koteā ko Anan
Anan's link to the blue LED makes it a meaningful place for engineers and scientists as well as for those who grew up on this stretch of the Shikoku coast. The map works as a reminder of home and of a notable chapter in modern technology.
Your poster can carry a custom title, subtitle and coordinates line, in Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The digital version costs $9 and includes six print sizes as 300 DPI PNGs and PDFs; printed posters ship from partners in 30+ countries.
