Te mapa
Angarsk was built from scratch after the Second World War around a large petrochemical complex in Irkutsk Oblast. It sits on the left bank of the Angara, downstream from Irkutsk, and its plan shows the order of that era. The central districts are divided into rectangular blocks called kvartaly. Further out, the later microdistricts are also identified by number rather than name.
The city's older centre is known for its well-preserved postwar architecture of the Stalin era: solid apartment buildings, landscaped courtyards and wide, straight avenues. Industry lies to the other side, separated from the housing by a buffer zone. Angarsk also has an unusual clock museum, based on a private collection.
An Angarsk map poster shows a Soviet planned city in its clearest form. The numbered blocks and straight avenues form a regular grid, the industrial zone is kept apart, and the Angara and its tributaries mark the edges. In black and white, the city reads almost like a diagram of an urban plan.

Wide avenues and courtyard blocks form the oldest part of the city. It is one of the best-preserved postwar ensembles in Siberia.
The river runs along the city's edge. With its tributaries it forms the main natural boundary on an otherwise planned map.

Koteā ko Angarsk
Angarsk is a natural choice for people who grew up in its numbered blocks and anyone interested in planned cities. The regular layout gives the print a calm, orderly look.
You can edit the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps to note a block number or a year. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital download covers six sizes, and printed posters are also available.
