Te mapa
Anyuan lies in eastern Gansu, in the loess country of north-western China, and the map shows a settlement shaped almost entirely by terrain. The built area follows the valley floor, its streets stretched out along the line of the lowest ground, while the land around rises into steep, deeply cut hills.
From above, the loess landscape has a distinctive texture. Gullies branch out like the veins of a leaf, and slopes have long been worked into terraces for farming, so that roads and paths climb in zigzags and contours rather than straight lines. Villages cling to ledges and small flats wherever the ground allows.
An Anyuan map poster reads as a study in how people fit themselves into difficult ground. The town is modest in size, but the pattern of valley road, scattered houses and folded hills gives the map an unusual, almost topographic beauty, quite different from the flat grids of cities on the plains.
The main streets run along the valley bottom, giving the town a long, narrow footprint defined by the hills on either side rather than by planning.
Around the town, erosion has cut the soft loess into branching gullies, which appear on the map as intricate, tree-like patterns of ravines and tracks.
Farm terraces and the roads that serve them follow the contours of the hills, drawing fine, layered lines across the slopes surrounding the settlement.

Koteā ko Anyuan
For those with roots in eastern Gansu, this map carries the feel of home ground: hills, terraces and a road through the valley. Its organic lines also appeal to anyone who enjoys maps as abstract, textured compositions.
Add your own title and subtitle, keep the coordinates line or adjust it, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand echoes the warm tones of the loess country.
