Te mapa
Guyuan is the main city of southern Ningxia, set in a valley on the Loess Plateau near the Liupan Mountains. The Qingshui River rises in the hills to the south and flows north past the city toward the Yellow River. The urban area stretches along the valley floor, bounded on both sides by dry, deeply folded loess terrain.
The city stands on an old route between the Chinese heartland and the northwest, and for many centuries it was an important frontier town. The best-known sites nearby include the Xumishan Grottoes, a group of Buddhist cave temples cut into sandstone cliffs northwest of the city. The Liupan Mountains to the south were crossed by the Red Army during the Long March.
A Guyuan map poster focuses on the modern city in its valley. There is a regular grid of avenues and blocks in the centre, newer districts extending along the river, and roads and rail climbing out through the hills. The surrounding terrain, carved by gullies and terraced slopes, gives the edges of the map an unusually organic texture.
The river and its valley run north through the city. They give the urban area its elongated shape and a clear axis for the whole composition.
The core is laid out in regular blocks along straight avenues. It contrasts strongly with the irregular ridges and gullies that surround the built-up area.
Dry, eroded hills and terraced slopes enclose the valley on both sides. There the street network thins out into winding roads and scattered settlements.

Koteā ko Guyuan
Guyuan is home for many people who have since moved to larger cities in China or abroad. A map of its valley and hills is a calm, personal reminder of the place, and a clear print that looks at ease in any room.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a name, a place or a date, and choose one of five styles. Sand and Paper suit the loess landscape particularly well. Download the digital files in six sizes, or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
