Te mapa
Hanzhong sits in a broad basin in the south of Shaanxi province, on the upper reaches of the Han River. To the north rise the Qinling Mountains, to the south the Daba range, and the flat valley between them is filled with farmland, towns and the city itself. On a map, the Han River runs east through the basin, and the urban grid spreads along its northern bank.
The name carries deep historical weight. Liu Bang, the founder of the Han dynasty, held the title King of Han with this region as his base before he went on to unify China. The dynasty, and ultimately the Han Chinese people, took their name from this river and land.
A Hanzhong map poster shows a city in an ideal basin setting: straight modern avenues on the plain, bridges crossing the river, and the land rising on both sides into mountain country. It is a clear, balanced composition, a green valley held between two ranges.
The river crosses the basin from west to east beside the city, spanned by several bridges and lined by riverside parks along its banks.
The Qinling to the north and the Daba to the south enclose the valley, giving Hanzhong a protected, bowl-like setting that is visible even at city scale.
On the flat valley floor, the city's newer districts spread out in regular blocks, a neat pattern set against the rugged terrain beyond.

Koteā ko Hanzhong
Hanzhong has a quiet significance: it is the land that gave a dynasty its name. For people from the basin, or for anyone interested in China's history, a map of the city and its river makes a thoughtful piece for a wall.
