Te mapa
Xianyang lies on the north bank of the Wei River in central Shaanxi, just northwest of Xi'an, and the two cities have grown so close that their built-up areas now almost merge. On a map the river forms a broad band along the southern edge of the city, crossed by bridges, with a regular grid of streets rising gently toward the north.
More than two thousand years ago Xianyang was the capital of the Qin state, and it became the first imperial capital of China when the Qin unified the country in 221 BC. North of the city, the loess uplands hold a long line of Han dynasty imperial mausoleums, including Maoling, and the Tang tomb of Qianling lies further to the northwest.
A Xianyang map poster shows a modern city laid over one of the deepest historical landscapes in China. The river, the orderly streets and the rising land to the north create a composition of layered horizontals. The region's main international airport also lies within Xianyang's territory, so for many travellers this is the first ground they touch in Shaanxi.
The wide Wei River runs along the southern side of the city, its embankments and bridges forming a strong horizontal line that anchors the bottom of the map.
North of the centre the land steps up toward the loess plateau, where the burial mounds of Han emperors stand in a long line across the fields.
The modern centre is laid out in straight streets and rectangular blocks, a clear and calm pattern that contrasts with the curving river along its southern edge.

Koteā ko Xianyang
Xianyang appeals to people with family in Shaanxi and to anyone interested in the origins of imperial China. A map of the river city makes a quiet, intelligent gift, one that invites conversation about the Qin and the tombs beyond the edge of the frame.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, and choose among Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The $9 digital download includes six print sizes, and a printed matte poster with an optional wooden frame is also available.
