Te mapa
Ayyampettāi lies in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, in the heart of the Cauvery delta, on the main route between Thanjavur and Kumbakonam. From above, the town stretches along this corridor, with its streets gathered around the main road and the railway line running roughly parallel through the surrounding countryside.
This part of the delta is crossed by several branches of the Cauvery and a dense network of irrigation channels, and the land between them is almost entirely given over to rice cultivation. Towns and villages here are often linear, following roads and watercourses rather than forming compact circles.
An Ayyampettāi map poster shows this linear pattern clearly. The main road and railway form strong axes, the town's lanes branch off on either side, and the thin lines of channels and field roads fill the surrounding space. It is a portrait of a delta town shaped by movement and water in equal measure.
The town lies along the route between Thanjavur and Kumbakonam, and its streets are organised around this corridor, giving it a long, linear shape.
A railway runs through the area roughly parallel to the road, adding a second strong line that frames the built-up part of the town.
Branches of the Cauvery and irrigation channels cross the surrounding plain, dividing the rice fields into a fine patchwork of narrow plots.
