Te mapa
Babaeski is a town in Kırklareli Province in Turkish Thrace, on the historic road between Istanbul and Edirne. The route still runs through the town, and its line is the backbone of the map. The old centre is compact, with irregular streets around the main mosque and market area, while newer neighbourhoods extend in more regular blocks along the road.
The town's best-known building is the Cedid Ali Paşa Mosque, a sixteenth-century work attributed to the architect Mimar Sinan, which marks the historic centre. Around Babaeski, the rolling Thracian plain is covered with large fields of wheat and sunflowers. On the map these appear as big, rectangular plots crossed by farm roads and small streams.
The Babaeski map poster places the dense old town at the heart of a wide agricultural landscape, with the main road running straight through. In black and white, the contrast between the irregular centre and the large fields around it becomes clear. It is a calm, balanced print for anyone connected to Thrace and its towns.
