Te mapa
Babahoyo, capital of Los Ríos province, lies on the flat, water-rich lowlands of Ecuador's coastal region. The Babahoyo River defines its map, curving past the centre with tributaries joining it nearby, and the streets run in a grid back from the bank. Around the city the land dissolves into farmland, channels and seasonal wetlands.
The river has long made Babahoyo a trading town, linking the agricultural interior with Guayaquil downstream, as the Babahoyo flows south to meet the Daule and form the Guayas. The surrounding province is known for rice, bananas and cacao. Floods are part of the city's life in the rainy season, and some riverside homes have traditionally been built on floating platforms.
A Babahoyo map poster is shaped by water at every scale: the wide river, the smaller streams and the geometric blocks of rice paddies around the edges. The city grid sits at the centre of this pattern, giving the print a clear focus surrounded by fine, low-lying detail that fades toward the frame.
The river curves along the edge of the city centre, a broad line that sets the orientation of the streets and carries boats towards Guayaquil.
The older town follows a regular grid of blocks back from the water, with the main streets running parallel and perpendicular to the river.
Beyond the built-up area, rice fields and wet ground form a mosaic of small shapes and channels, typical of the lowlands of Los Ríos.
