Te mapa
Baisha is in the south of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, close to the northern coast of the Beibu Gulf, also known as the Gulf of Tonkin. The land here is low and flat, shaped by rivers and tidal inlets, and the map shows a town surrounded by water in many forms: channels, ponds and the coastline beyond.
The built-up area is compact, with a dense core and main roads leading out towards neighbouring towns and the coast. Around it, the countryside is divided into fields and rectangular ponds used for aquaculture, creating a distinctive grid of water and land that is common along this stretch of the southern Chinese coast.
A Baisha map poster captures this watery landscape in a clean, graphic way. The town sits at the centre, and around it the ponds and fields form a mosaic. It is a quieter subject than a big city, but with a strong and unusual texture.
Rectangular ponds cover much of the surrounding land, forming a fine grid of water and embankments that gives the map an unusual, tiled texture.
The flat terrain near the Beibu Gulf is cut by rivers, channels and inlets, and the land and water interlock towards the coast.
The town itself is small and dense, with a tight network of streets at its centre and main roads radiating out across the lowlands.

For people from Baisha and the Beibu Gulf coast, a map of the town and its waterways is a very personal image of home. It suits a hallway, a study or a gift for family who have moved to the cities.
