Te mapa
Bakhmut stands on the Bakhmutka River in Donetsk Oblast, in the rolling steppe of eastern Ukraine. Before the war, its map showed a compact centre on the river's banks, a regular grid of residential streets beyond, and industrial districts along the railway. Green space followed the small river valley, giving the city a soft spine through its middle.
The settlement grew up around salt production in the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, and salt and gypsum mining remained part of its economy. The city's best-known product was sparkling wine, aged in old gypsum tunnels on its outskirts. From 1924 to 2016 it was called Artemivsk, before the historic name was restored.
In 2022 and 2023, Bakhmut was the site of one of the longest and most destructive battles of the war, and much of the city was ruined. A Bakhmut map poster preserves the street plan as it was, a record of a place that many people still call home and hope to rebuild.
The small river winds through the city, its green banks forming a soft line between the older centre and the districts on the other side.
Regular blocks of low houses and apartment buildings extend around the centre, a steady pattern that the poster records exactly as it stood.
The railway and industrial zones trace the city's edges in long, straight lines, the frame within which the residential neighbourhoods grew.

Koteā ko Bakhmut
For people from Bakhmut, and for those who knew it before the war, this map is a way to hold on to the city's shape: the streets, the river, the corner where a home stood. It is a quiet, respectful form of remembrance.
You can add a title, a subtitle and coordinates, such as the name of a street or a year that matters to you, and choose one of five styles, from Classic black & white to Noir. HD files cost $9 and carry no watermark.
