Te mapa
Banda Aceh lies at the far northern end of Sumatra, where the island meets the Indian Ocean and the entrance to the Strait of Malacca. On a map the Krueng Aceh river winds through the middle of the city toward the sea. Canals and flood channels run beside it, and low coastal land stretches along the northern edge.
The city was hit hard by the tsunami of December 2004, and much of its coastal area was rebuilt afterwards. Memorials include the Aceh Tsunami Museum and a large power-generating ship carried several kilometres inland by the wave, which now rests there as a monument. The Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, with its black domes, has long stood at the centre of the city.
A Banda Aceh map poster shows the river and canals dividing a dense centre, with the grand mosque close to the heart of the street network. Toward the coast the pattern opens up into fishponds, rebuilt neighbourhoods and shoreline. It is the portrait of a resilient city shaped by water on every side.
The main river curves through the city to the sea, joined by a straight flood channel that stands out as a strong engineered line.
The Baiturrahman Grand Mosque sits at the heart of the city, and the densest streets and main roads gather around it.
Low coastal land, ponds and rebuilt districts line the shore facing the open sea, giving the map a broad, open northern edge.

Koteā ko Banda Aceh
Banda Aceh means home, faith and recovery to many people. A print of its river, mosque and coast is a quietly meaningful piece to hang, whether in Aceh or far from Sumatra.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates to mark a family home or an important date. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, whichever of the five styles feels right.
