Te mapa
Barbosa is the northernmost municipality of the Aburrá Valley metropolitan area, downstream from Medellín in Antioquia. On a map the valley has narrowed here. The river, known further down as the Porce, winds along the valley floor with a highway and a railway corridor beside it. Steep, forested slopes rise on both sides and are crossed by rural roads and farm tracks.
The town centre sits on the valley floor, a small grid of streets around a central plaza, typical of Antioquian towns. Most of the municipality is rural. Veredas, or rural districts, spread up the hillsides, and the scattered houses and farms follow the contours. This gives the land around the town a strongly vertical character.
A Barbosa map poster shows this valley geometry clearly: a river, a road and a compact town inside a deep fold of the Andes. In black and white, the winding roads on the slopes form a loose web around the straighter lines of the valley floor. The result is a map with real depth even without shading.
The river runs north through the valley floor. Its meandering line anchors the composition and leads the eye out of the Aburrá Valley.
The urban centre follows the plaza-and-grid pattern of Antioquian towns. It is compact and clearly defined against the green slopes around it.
Rural roads climb and zigzag across the valley sides. On the poster they form a fine, irregular pattern that suggests the steep terrain.
