Te mapa
Barnaul lies on the left bank of the Ob, where the small Barnaulka River joins it, at the edge of the Altai steppe. The map shows a historic core near the river mouth, a steep bank rising above it and long straight avenues running inland across the plateau. On the far side of the Ob, floodplain woods and meadows give the composition a wide, open border.
The industrialist Akinfiy Demidov founded the settlement in the 1730s as a works for smelting copper, and later silver, from Altai ores. The old centre still keeps traces of that mining-era plan. Today Barnaul is the capital of Altai Krai and a starting point for journeys south toward the Altai Mountains.
A Barnaul map poster brings out the city's clear structure: the curve of the Ob, the narrow valley of the Barnaulka and a grid of avenues laid out with Soviet confidence across flat ground. At the edges, the ribbon pine forests that follow old river channels across the region appear as bands of open space.
The broad Ob sweeps past the city's eastern side. Its floodplain, islands and bridges form the most striking natural shape on the map.
Lenin Avenue runs in a long straight line inland from the old centre. It is one of several major avenues that give Barnaul its orderly, stretched-out street grid.
The small Barnaulka River cuts a narrow valley through the city before reaching the Ob. It adds a gentle diagonal line that breaks up the grid.

Koteā ko Barnaul
Many people from Altai Krai keep Barnaul with them after moving to Novosibirsk, Moscow or abroad. A clean plan of its avenues and river brings back a city of long walks, cold winters and summer trips south to the mountains.
Set your own title and subtitle, perhaps a district name or a family date, and adjust the coordinates line. Pick from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Printed posters come on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame.
