Te mapa
Novokuznetsk lies in the south of the Kuzbass, where the Kondoma and the Aba flow into the Tom River. The rivers divide the city into distinct parts. As a result the map reads less like a single centre than a cluster of districts linked by bridges. Large industrial sites, rail lines and open land fill the spaces in between.
The central district on the left bank has a planned Soviet layout, with straight avenues, big blocks and generous squares. On high ground across the Tom stands the Kuznetsk Fortress, marking where Russian settlement began in the early seventeenth century. Between these areas, the rivers, rail yards and steelworks create a pattern of heavy lines and wide gaps.
The city grew rapidly in the 1930s around a major steelworks and was called Stalinsk until 1961. It remains one of the main industrial centres of Siberia. A Novokuznetsk map poster brings out the structure that shaped the place: rivers, railways, industry and the planned districts built for the people who worked there.
The Tom winds through the city, joined by the Kondoma and the Aba. It splits Novokuznetsk into separate banks connected by a handful of bridges.
On high ground on the right bank, the fortress marks the site of the settlement founded in 1618, the oldest point on the map.
The central district follows a Soviet plan of straight avenues and large blocks. It is one of the most orderly areas on the map and contrasts sharply with the industrial zones nearby.

Koteā ko Novokuznetsk
Novokuznetsk maps are often hung by people who grew up in its districts, worked at the plants or left Siberia but still keep the city close. With rivers and industry as its defining lines, the layout feels honest rather than decorative.
