Te mapa
Barreiro occupies a peninsula on the south bank of the Tagus estuary, directly across the water from Lisbon. On a map, water frames it on several sides: the wide estuary to the north, and river inlets curving along its edges. Across the channel, the capital's waterfront is close enough to share the frame.
The plan combines an older riverside core of narrow streets with large planned housing districts and the vast footprint of a former industrial complex. The Barreiro map poster captures these shifts in scale, from tight lanes near the ferry landing to the long, straight roads and rail sidings of the old factory grounds.
For much of the twentieth century Barreiro was one of Portugal's great industrial centres, dominated by the CUF chemical works. It was also an important railway terminus for lines serving the south. Ferries still link it with central Lisbon, and old tide mills along the shore recall an earlier economy that ran on the rise and fall of the estuary.
The wide estuary runs along the north of the peninsula. It gives the map a broad expanse of open water and a long, varied shoreline.
The former CUF complex covers a large area with straight roads and rail sidings. Its planned geometry stands apart from the older streets nearby.
The ferry terminal, with its piers reaching into the estuary, marks the point where Barreiro connects with Lisbon across the water.

Koteā ko Barreiro
Barreiro speaks to people who grew up with the factory sirens or who cross the Tagus every day by ferry. Its peninsula shape and industrial grid make a strong, graphic poster that feels more architectural than decorative.
