Betioky, often called Betioky-Sud, lies in the Atsimo-Andrefana region of southwestern Madagascar. This is one of the island's driest areas. The map shows a modest town of short streets built around its main roads, and sandy tracks lead out into thinly settled country with few built-up areas.
The town serves as a district centre for a wide rural area of farming and cattle herding. The surrounding district is also home to the Bezà Mahafaly special reserve, which is known for its research on lemurs and on the region's dry forest.
