Te mapa
Biankouma lies in the mountainous west of Ivory Coast, north of Man, in the region of the Dan people. The landscape around it is hilly and green, and the town's shape responds to that terrain. Its streets are less regular than those of towns on the coastal plain, following the lie of the land between slopes and small valleys.
The main road through the area connects Biankouma with Man to the south and with towns further north, and it forms the clearest line on the map. Smaller roads and tracks lead out to villages in the surrounding hills. The Dan are widely known for their masks and mask traditions, which remain an important part of cultural life in the region.
A Biankouma map poster shows a town shaped by hills and road. The central streets, the main route running through and the thinner tracks disappearing into the countryside make a simple but characterful composition. It is a rare map of a place seldom seen in print.
The route linking Biankouma to Man and to the north runs through the town and gives the map its strongest line.
Streets bend around slopes and valleys, so the town has an irregular outline rather than a planned grid.
Thin roads and paths lead from the town into the surrounding hills, connecting it with the villages of the Dan region.
